About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Esther, I use this same approach because it is a great way to help the students get comfortable in the class as I get to know the students and what their expectations are for the upcoming sessions. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
John, Acteonline.org has many great resources that will be of help to you. I wish you continued teaching success as you expand your instructional delivery expertise. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Marjorie, Good point about the value of graphic organizers. They help the students see the sequence and order of the materials they are being taught. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Hector, This is a critical part of being an educator. You need to define your role in relation to your students and how you conduct yourself as a model of your field. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Marjorie, This is a great way to connect the course content to the lives of the students. The use of speakers reinforces the value of the content and will increase the retention of knowledge by the students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Nia, For me one of the benefits of teaching is getting to know new students on a regular basis. They bring such rich backgrounds and I learn so much from them. We establish rapport which is a the foundation of growth for both of us as we get to know each other. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Michelle, They will. You will be building some very strong connecting points for your students using this approach. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Nia, Thank you for your comments about methods of creating learning strategies for your students. These approaches are engaging for the students and help them to maintain focus throughout the course. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Paul, Thank you for sharing this example. Students seem to forget that we, their instructors are former students that have been where they are and in addition we have career experiences that got us to the classroom. We have practiced our profession and now we are sharing what we know with them. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Dennis, Well said. To do any less is to be unfair to the students and our profession of teaching. We must bring our A game to the class each time we enter the room. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
