About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

John, They need to know what the expectations are from the very beginning. This sets the stage for a positive and engaging class which is as we all know so much easier to teach. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
John, Right you are. Digging out of a negative hole is no fun as we all know. It is much easier to start positive and move forward from there. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Angela, You were very resourceful in pulling together and refining your syllabus. I commend you for this effort. As you have experienced a well prepared syllabus helps to reduce student confusion and frustration plus shows the students that you are organized and ready to teach. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Melissa, They are great study aides aren't they? They really help the students as they walk through the content and then draw out the key elements from a lecture or textbook. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Melissa, You raise a very good point and one that instructors need to be comfortable in answering. If we can't answer the "why" question then I think we need to exam what we are offering and make sure that the content we are sharing can be seen by the students as having application and being relevant. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Brian, Great example of using a graphic illustration. Thanks for sharing it with us. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Sharon, Great way to instruct. You are hitting on so many different learning strategies that I know your students are able to learn the needed concepts and skills related to your course in an efficient and effective way. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Brian, This is one of the challenges of teaching. We need to strive to find and deliver the different instructional deliveries so we can hit on the different learning preferences of our students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
John, Sounds like a great way to being variety and change of pace into the class while keeping the students engaged. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Hector, So true and so important for the rest of the course. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
