About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

LaTunija, I thin this is a great way to reinforce the skills students need to develop while in their externship. The more role play examples you can give them the more they will be able to see application of what they are learning and doing. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Patricia, Good idea. I use a pretest so I can establish a knowledge baseline with the current group of students. Then I can customize how I approach the class and make sure I am targeting their learning needs. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Pamela, Right you are. So important to establish a positive learning environment right up front and then build on it from there. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Angela, What are some that work best for you? Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Carol, Immediate use of newly acquired knowledge is a powerful learning tool. Your approach provides such an opportunity as the student practice their skill development. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Fallon, Good strategy to make sure the students have received the material for which the course is designed. Accountability is a big factor in student success and it is easy for them to try and not be accountable when they don't do well. In many cases it is "someone" else that caused their poor performance. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Deginald, I agree. I use rubrics in my classes and they help the students to understand exactly how they earned their points. As a result I don't have to explain nearly as much nor answer as many questions. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Angela, How do you use real life examples, case studies and situations in your instructional delivery? Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kerry, I agree. They are sizing up the class and you their instructor. We need to make that all important dynamic first impression and then build from there. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Andre, Yes, you are and rapport is such a critical element of teaching success. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
