About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Ken, I like your example about the train and the need for goals and objectives that are clear and easily understood. If they are understood then everyone can see what the end result will be when the class is completed. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kenneth, I do to. Getting there early and chatting with the students as they settle in helps to set the tone for the upcoming class. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kenneth, You have a good style from which you are working. Being the center then you can provide learning opportunities in a number of different ways as you expand out from the center to the learners. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Steven, Yes, they do. The more relevance and application they can see the higher the ROI will be for them in the class. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Nancy, This is why customizing your instruction is so important. You are reading your students and then planning for their learning. Good job! Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Steven, In relation to your point this is why we need to have use reinforcement and repetition to get the students to retain the content. So the more examples we can share and applications they can make the higher the retention will be. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
John, Right you are. It is a building process and we need to help our students to see the value of the content that is being offered. Once they see the ROI they become more engaged. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Walt, Thank you for these great comments. Each of your points reinforces what we need to do as well as why we need to do it. It is for the future of our students that we put forth the effort to plan and deliver our content. If we are not excited about it, it is for sure the students won't be as well. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Cynthia, This has been my experience as well. They see how the content that has been covered can be applied. They get excited because they are seeing relevance to what is being taught and how it applies to their future. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Eddie, I teach two sections of the same course back to back. I really appreciate your comments about needing to stay Focused and then Refocused. This is what I have to do each time I teach the two sections. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
