About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Ted, This is such a great reward in teaching when this happens. The students find out that they can be successful and that the course has value in their career development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Peter, Since I teach such a course I can really appreciate your comments. My course is required for state certification. So it is my task to get the students excited about the content and how they can make application of what they are learning. I really enjoy the challenge because at the end of the course most of them see how valuable the content is going to be in their career development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Taria, Good point and one we need to remember each time we approach the classroom. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Charmian, They are so valuable this way. They greatly reduce my time spent in explaining how the segments fit since the students see them graphically and that increases their content retention. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tony, This has been my results as well. They are so valuable in helping students get organized and seeing the big picture of what we are trying to do in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Charmian, I like the way you are using their life experiences to help them get settled into the course and seeing that they can have success. This greatly reduces their fears and frustrations and lets them focus on their future success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Matthew, Once you have found and used these concrete examples I know you are going to like the results. It will be easier for your students to make the connections between concrete and abstract and this will increase their content retention as well as skill development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Amber, Teaching is a matter of experience and growth. We all need to be on a journey of discovery as we expand our expertise in teaching. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Melissa, A simple act of reinforcement is a powerful indicator of career growth. Your students are developing their skills at putting up a good dish and you are letting them know you know it. Powerful way to increase their motivation. Keep up the good work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Discussion Comment
Jamie, I really like your last sentence. By having this as a goal you then can build your instructional delivery around content selection and presentation. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
