About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Jamilya, A very good point and one that the college cannot overlook. If the environment is not supportive it is tough to teach there due to the student discontent. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Iris, I like your approach. I use something much like this and as a result just as you mention the course gets stronger and better each time I teach it. In addition, the additions I put in help to keep me excited about teaching the course even though I have taught it for years. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Maurice, Right you are. This is what customized teaching is all about. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Scott, Good way to engage the students and get them focused on the course content. This way they can see the value from what is being taught and how you are helping them move toward their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jessica, This is such a great resource to have and hopefully your students take advantage of it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ruby, The syllabus is a connecting and communication device between the instructor and the students. It must be clear and concise so the students will understand the expectations, requirements and policies under which they will operate. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ruby, Good steps to follow the first class meeting. This sets the standard for the course and helps the students to see that they have a professional dedicated instructor that is going to share his/her knowledge and expertise with them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brenda, You make a very good point about the necessity of the human element. This is what keeps the students coming back. They know they have a caring instructor. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Katessa, Good way to integrate academic skill into a career setting. You are showing application and relevancy to what you are teaching in relation to their career goals. Effective communicators are always needed no matter what field they enter. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, Good way to bring out the reality of going through a training program. You are showing your students that you have experienced the same things they are going through and by working through them you are the success you are today. You are a role model for them to follow. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
