About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Linda, This is a very important skill to develop. Reading a class helps you to customize your instructional delivery based upon the class dynamics of that session. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kamice, Great variety to your instructional delivery. I know these approaches keep your students engaged and focused throughout the course sessions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tim, You are a great resource to and for your students as a result of your own career path. This really helps I am sure as you talk to your students and share with them the value of the course content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Bryan, Nice respectful way to handle a situation that can be challenging. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lairlyn, This is an important learning area for students. Many of them have very poor time management skills so they can use help in learning how to use their time more effectively. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mouda, Very good point. If you start with a negative image it is going to be hard to dig out of the negative hole that has been dug. So much easier to start positive and build from there. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Linda, Good reminder for us all as we start a new class. This way we will work harder to be prepared and dynamic in our approach to the classroom since this is the kind of instructor we would want to have. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Pauline, This is the human factor in teaching and learning and it is so important. With this form of introduction they get to see that you have been where they are and that you have a full and rich life as a result of hard work and much effort. This is a motivator for the students as well as a way to get the class off to a good start. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jeanie, Good observation for you. This approach gave you another way to start your own class if you feel that this method will work with your classroom style. The more you can observe colleagues the more options you have for your own classes. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mouda, Good point because without a well prepared syllabus there will be student frustration and lack luster performance since no one really knows what the expectations of the course are. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
