About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Bronzel, So true and so important in terms of getting everyone on the same page from the beginning of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Anthony, I agree. Just this week I have been dealing with such a situation. For years all of us instructors have had our classroom arranged in a seminar format. This facilitates more interaction and discussion between and with our students. The school hired a new janitor (apparently they are hard to find) and he will only clean the classrooms if they seats are in rows. Seth, Good point and one we need to remember as we start a new course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jeremy, Classes without direction or goals are really tough on students because they don't know what the outcomes are to be. You make a good point about how instructors need to have and make clear the course goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Caryn, Now that you are an instructor it raises your level of appreciation for those instructors in your past as a result of what you said. You now know how much effort went into their preparation but you benefited from their effort. Now your students can benefit from your effort because you know what a top quality instructor should be like. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lyle, I find this is beneficial to me as well. Gives me another perspective. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Seth, What are some strategies you can share with us that helps you stay current and provide real world situations to your students? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tammy, I am always amazed at some of my students that do not get this concept. There is a reason why they are there and they have chosen to enroll so they can expand their career opportunities. Yet, many of them complain about having to come to class, do the work and exert effort. Bottom line is their ROI will be what they put into the course and they are not entitled to a grade just because they paid tuition. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kelly, Right you are about stories being a way to engage students. They love hearing them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Christopher, Good strategy. It is working for you so keep using this method and continue to enjoy teaching success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
