About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Tanya, Passion and zeal for one's field helps to sell the content as you well know. Keep bringing it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tim, The "take away" of the course has to be seen by the students. If they don't see the value as we all know then they are not going to be engaged in the learning process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Peggy, Students are always asking those questions in terms of value and relevancy of the content. The more applications we can provide them where they use their newly acquired knowledge and skills the quicker they will see both the value and use of the content. This increases the ROI of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carroll, This makes your content real for them because they have all experienced having a vehicle fail at one time or another. By showing them how to fix such a problem you are making your content relevant and that is a strong motivator for learners. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, By incorporating your experiences into the class you are showing the students the relevancy of what you are teaching. This is a powerful and necessary connection they need to make. Keep up the good work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Denise, As I teach from 4 until 10 pm I can relate to your comments. It is tough but I feel good at the end of the evening when I have kept them engaged and I know they have achieved the goals I have set for the night. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mark, Students really like to hear these stories as they help to make the course content come alive. So keep up the sharing process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, Comfort is so important because it enables students to settled into the course and focus on the content being shared. From there on it is a building process in terms of learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Denise, Listening is a valuable teaching tool. Listening to students shows respect plus you gain all kinds of valuable information about what life experiences they are bringing to the class and how you can use those experiences as learning tools. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Discussion Comment
Kelly, Good reminder for us. Student feedback is so valuable as we do our instructional planning. They tell us how we should format our content so they will be able to grasp and retain it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
