These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Erika, Good analysis of how the learning environment and related support materials can help students be successful. This is how it should be for our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Catina, I agree with your statement about helping students to see the value of education. I work a lot in developing countries where there is not organized education going on and the loss of human potential is great. When we set up educational opportunities for students the valuing of education is tremendous. They see the value related to having knowledge and skills to help themselves and others. I wish many of our students to see this as well. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dawnyell, So true and so important. As instructors we signed on for life long learning if we are to stay current and at the top of our game professionally. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tina, The use of case studies and scenarios enhance the value of course content. The more we can show application and relevancy with the content the more they will be engaged. So keep using these strategies as you focus your students on the use of the course content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Catina, The more integration of the senses and cognitive processing the greater success you are going to have with the students. You make a very good point about how we can do this in your instructional planning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Leslie, Good point about setting the standard for your students. If we model our expectations it is easier to enforce them when needed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Christina, These stories help to make the content come alive for them. This reinforces and validates why you are teaching what you are teaching. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tim, This is such a valuable resource for students. By having the key concepts illustrated in some fashion they can see how the different course components come together and contribute to the big picture of their program success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
TIMOTHY, Right you are. They are pictorial ways of illustrating how learning needs to occur and content be acquired. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Melinda, Good point. It is a scaffolding process in terms of learning that lets both you the instructor and students build on previous experiences and knowledge to move forward toward their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
