About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Philip, You have a nice comfortable way of starting off a new class. This lets the students get settled into the course and get a feel for how the course is going to be conducted. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tammy, I like this approach. You are setting the bar high for your students and that is as it should be. You are also modeling the standards for the course so the students see that you value quality and excellence which are two attributes that are needed for career success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tamikah, This is a very good way to get students settled into the course and feeling comfortable. This is a fun time for them plus they get to know each other a little better. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Keli, So true. Sharing the syllabus at the beginning of a new class helps the students to see how the course is going to be conducted and what they need to do to be successful in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nancy, Good point about how the syllabus can keep everyone informed and forward focused. This is critical if everyone is going to see how the course is going to benefit them and their career plans. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Terry, So true. You are working within a very tight time frame at 5 weeks. Your instructional planning has to be right on target each and every day because you and your students can't afford to miss a segment or it will be lost for the duration of that course phase. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Donald, Great to hear that you are ready. You are going to have a great first day because you have the communication skills needed to get your message across. I wish you much success in your teaching. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ruben, This is a good strategy to use. The camera does not lie so you are getting real feedback in terms of how you move, talk and interact with your students. This information will give you many opportunities to refine your teaching style. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Audrey, Good self check to use when selecting the delivery format for content. This way you will use strategies that are of interest to both you and your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tamikah, Case studies and role playing are two great strategies to use. I use them a lot in my classes because they show the relevancy of the content to my students plus they are engaged at a much higher level when I am using them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
