About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Shannon, This is a good strategy to follow because it does generate success. Repetition helps to "drill" the content into the minds of the students and they are able to store it in their memory for use later on as needed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dorothy, Respect and rapport are important to have in a class and with the students. Once these are established then it is as you know a building process in terms of relationships with the students for the duration of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ronda, You are doing a great job of offering change of pace and variety in your instruction. I teach a 6 hour block so I face the same challenges as you in terms of keeping students engaged. I employ these same methods and find that the time goes by quickly and I have the students focused on the course the entire time when I offer them activities that have them using their newly acquired knowledge and skills. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ronda, Right you are about the need for modeling for students. You are setting the stage for success through the methods you are using. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ronda, You have done an excellent job of outlining both the need for and value of a well prepared syllabus. It is essential that the syllabus be reviewed with the students so it then can become the document of operation for the course. This keeps everyone on the same page in terms of expectations. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Pierre, You have a very good instructional delivery plan laid out. I wish you a lot of success with it and I know your students are going to leave your class with additional skill sets that will serve them for years to come. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carolyn, I will look forward to hearing about your results. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, Field trips and guest speakers really help to motivate students throughout the course so be sure to include both in your instructional planning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tawana, Good strategy of bringing in "live" situations into the classroom. Through this effort your students got to see the results of the content they were being asked to learn. This helps them to make the content real in their minds. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tawana, Repetition is an essential and required teaching tool. The more repetition the more retention of content occurs. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
