About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Dorothy, Students like variety and change of pace in their learning process. The more instructors can do this the more engaged their students are going to be. Also, you make a good point about needing to be flexible because it seems every class meeting something comes up that requires a redirection of the instructional plan. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Philip, So true and so important for establishing a foundation from which the rest of the course can operate. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Edward, I like starting new classes because of the first meeting and first impressions. It is fun to set the stage for learning that is going to occur. This is done through planning and organization. Once the stage is set then it is forward from there. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dorothy, This is so important because by knowing this you can plan your instruction more accurately. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dorothy, How to you do this in relation to providing them with instructional support? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ralph, Personal attention, respect and rapport are three elements of student success. The more you can use these three the more the students are going to see themselves in the learning process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ralph, Right you are. Each class is different and the dynamics of the class can change throughout the session depending on what is going on in the lives of the students. This is why it is important to continually read the students and then respond as needed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cheryl, This information is critical to the success of the students. Knowing that they have support and resources available to them greatly increases their engagement and retention. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kurtis, So true. As a result of differentiated instruction student engagement is going to be enhanced and learning increased. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nazanin, Good point about how difficult it is to overcome a negative first impression. The key is as you mention to start with a good one and then build on it rather than trying to dig out of a negative hole. This is where planning and preparation comes into play. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
