About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Teresa, One way to respond to this statement is to let them know you will be offering instruction in their learning preference way in coming class sessions and that you expect them to do well since the information will be offered in their preference area. What commonly happens is that students use learning styles or preferences as an excuse for not learning rather than true learning venues. Also, they need to learn to learn through other preference areas since in the work world they won't receive information solely through their preferred way. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Teresa, Way to go in setting the students up for success. You are showing them that success is possible if they are willing to invest the effort to acquire the needed skills and knowledge. Makes for a great course setting in the coming weeks. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carole, Well said and I like the way you cover all aspects of the class. This gets the students settled into the course while informing them of the expectations. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Heather, Good point and one all instructors need to remember, but especially those just beginning their teaching careers. Be ready for that first class and wow them while doing the introduction. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Debra, The more you know the better you can plan and this is true as a result of the introductions you have your students do. Good way to start a new class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carmella, Plus, for me introductions are a lot of fun. We laugh, do ice breakers, make introductions while we are all getting settled into the routine of the new class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Larry, Well said and something we should not take lightly. The environment does make a difference for learners. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Heather, Only way to go. With planning like this the instructor can really enjoy sharing the content and activities because he or she know they are prepared and ready to teach. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carmella, Good point about preparedness and instructional ease. One contributes to another and both lend themselves to effective instruction. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Debra, Very important aspect of lesson preparation. We have to stay current if we are going to provide our students with accurate and useable content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
