About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Fay, Step by step information sharing is how you get students engaged and using their learning preferences. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Fay, Right you are. What are some strategies you use to help you understand your students better? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Donnalyn, So do students. Notice how they perk up when you tell a story about something that relates to the topic and happened to you or one of your colleagues. These stories help to make the course content real. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Thomas, I agree. A shared laugh and a story from the field help to keep students engaged and ready to learn more. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Discussion Comment
Thomas, Your last sentence captures the essence of instructional improvement. We need to have ongoing feedback so we can check ourselves in relation to how effective we are in what we are communicating. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Donnalyn, So true. If we do not bring enthusiasm to the classroom it is for sure the students won't. We need to be passionate about our field and the opportunity we have to share it with our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joseph, Good point and one we need to remember each time we prepare to teach a course. We need to seek improvement every time we enter the classroom. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Thomas, You are getting them prepared for the real world but by talking to them individually you are showing the human side of your teaching. Keep up the blending of these two areas as both are essential for the success of your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Thomas, Good way to get to know the students plus know how to customize your instruction based upon the responses you get. For many students that question is a hard one because they really don't know. They just enrolled without a clear career path set out. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Debra, Great strategy to follow. This keeps the students engaged and focused on the content plus enables them to apply the content during the activities time. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
