About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Tonya, Like your list. It is right on in terms of being a role model for your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dennis, So true. We have to bring our A game to the class each time it meets. To do any less is to cheat our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tom, So true and so frustrating. When I have offered special sections for students to review just like you are doing the top students join the session and the bubbles don't. Then I hear from the bubbles when they don't do well. I keep looking for new and creative ways to engage them and I do get success but I haven't found the "magic" fixer for these students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tom, You are most welcome and I look forward to hearing about good results from you. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Charlotte, So true and so important to keep students engaged for the long haul. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Charlotte, Good points about both delivery formats. I think just as you do that both have and will continue to have a place in the educational world. There are so many different options out there that students today can select combinations of delivery models that will fit their individual needs and that is the benefit each format. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tom, I like the way you set up your class structure, especially at the beginning because you are letting your students know how the course is going to operate as well as to how they can contact and interact with you beyond the typical posts. This is so important in online courses. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jonathan, Right you are about the value of episodic memory. If we can help our students make such a connection then we have greatly increased the retention of our content in each student's memory. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Craig, This is a good system to have in place for the reasons you list. It is comprehensive yet easy to understand in relation to getting rewarded for effort expended. This is what the work world is like and your class grading system reflects this. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joshua, Good point because they are in school to increase their ability to earn money. They need to see the value of the content they are receiving in relation to their income potential. If they make this connection then they increase their effort because the course moves them closer to their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
