About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Unidad (Ning), This is so important for student development. The more they can refine their critical thinking skills the better prepared they are going to be in their careers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cynthia, This is so important. They need to be reminded as to why they enrolled in college in the first place. Sometimes they forget their primary career goal and as a result start to slow down in their learning efforts. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cynthia, Your last sentence is something I do each time I teach my course sequence. I teach the same courses three times a year so I try something new each time so I don't become bored and I work very hard to keep my energy up for each class. I have fun teaching and I want my students to have fun learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kristin, This is what good teaching is about. You are reading your students and then adjusting your delivery to keep them engaged and focused. Thank you for sharing your strategies with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lindsey, Learners like variety and change of pace if they are to stay engaged. You are doing just that with the different activities and media that you are providing. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jennifer, Good point. Big picture and end results this needs to be refreshed for the students on a regular basis so they don't become worn down by current pressures. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lindsey, So true. When you take this approach you reduce student frustration and questions that are logistical in base. The students know what the expectations are and how they can be successful if they will put forth the effort. From there on then learning is the focus of the class sessions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kristin, I like your approach to the first class meeting. You are showing your students respect through the learning of their names early in the early stages of the new class and then building on that from there. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kristin, This is an ongoing challenge for all of us instructors. I am always looking for new polices that can be used in situations like this so we can all share what we learn on how to manage situations like this. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kristin, Great educational experiences because it sounds like you had good professors and you were engaged in the learning process. I believe we should model what will fit our personality and the needs of our students. Sounds like you have found such a match with your own instructional style. Keep up the good work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
