About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Brenda, Good for you and your students. I agree about the mid-term slump and how we have to battle it. This is when we introduce something new and fun and get our students ramped up as we head toward the back half of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ruben, Engagement in learning is a must. We can't let our students become passive in class because they will shut down if they do and we will not have achieved our goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, A good point for all instructors to remember as we go into the classroom. I teach two sections of the same course back to back and I have to maintain careful notes on what I did in each course so I am consistent and fresh in my teaching. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brenda, What a great influence and impact this on the lives of your students. You are creating a legacy of helping students to be successful in situations where the students thought success was not possible. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ruben, If they have quit school it is for sure we have lost our influence so we need to do what we can to support students staying in school. If they do leave we need to let them know the door is open for their return once they are ready to focus on being students again. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Marie, Good strategy for providing support to and for students in a specific way. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brenda, Yes, it is a challenge. Overall I don't think we do a great job in our career counseling either in high school or at the post-secondary level and as a result with get students that don't really know why they are in the career area they are in. We need to help them see the value of what they are studying or help them find a career area that better fits them and their goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brandon, It sure is and something we need to always keep in our minds as we conduct ourselves. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brandon, I agree. They have to put forth effort as students as it is their careers that are at stake. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jen, Good ways to expand your professional development. Are there other ways you have used to develop your instructional expertise? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
