About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Romana, I agree. I like being around people that are excited about what they do. Enthusiasm is catching so bring it on and share it with students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, Two valuable words for teachers, enthusiasm and energy. We need to bring both to our classes each time we teach. If we do then our students will become involved at a much higher level and retention will increase as well. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Trinity, Your approach is supportive and friendly for all of your students and this is great. Often our challenging students take all of our time and our high end students don't get the attention that we would like to give them. They are going to do well in the course anyway but a smile, greeting, exchange of words and emails telling they are valued and doing well in the course really seal the deal for them in terms of knowing they are valued. Keep up the good work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
CAROL, Well said and shared. It is important that we consider our students in this context if we are to reach them and keep them engaged in the learning process. This is both the technical as well as human aspects of teaching. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Khayyam, Your approach is a great way to show value in a gen ed course. I teach a gen ed course that is required for students to pass in order to get state certification. I work very hard with my students to show them the value of what is being taught and how the content can be used in their personal and professional lives. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joshua, You are helping your students to respect each other and what each student contributes to the class. They will need these skills when they are out in the workplace because each day they will interact with a wide variety of individuals and they need to know how to cope with the differences they encounter in their fellow workers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Elizabeth, Learners like variety and change of pace. When we offer both in our instructional delivery we are providing them opportunity to engage their brains and focus on the content being shared. Plus, student satisfaction with the course goes up as well. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joshua, You make a very good point about student engagement and respect. The first impression goes a long way in setting the stage for success in the course for both the students and the teacher. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, I think this type of sharing is important because it helps students to see the value of the experience and expertise you are bringing to them in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Madelyn, This is a great way to "connect the dots" between the classroom and the real world that the students will be entering before long. The more examples they can see and experiences they can have the higher their motivation levels are going to be. Keep up these experiences for them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
