About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

John, Right you are. Without a good first impression your problems with student behavior management will increase because as you say you have not earned their respect or trust. A good first impression helps to set the climate for the course to come. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ana, This is an comfortable and engaging way to get students familiar with each other and you. These introductions will give you a snapshot of the composition of the students you are going to be teaching during the coming session. Great information to have as you plan your instructional delivery. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, This is a good strategy to follow by all instructors. It is good to get a fellow professional's input which can validate what is being done well and suggest areas where improvement can be made. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, Thank you for these comments about how you will establish yourself as an instructor of merit. Your 5 C's say it all. By following them you will be able to approach your classroom with confidence (another C) and impact the lives of your students throughout the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Chloe, Students need to be able to "connect the dots" between course content and their career field. The more they can do this the more value they associate with what they are studying. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tiffany, Sharing these stories and experiences help them to see the value of the content being offered as well as helping them to see how what they are learning will help them in the future. This really helps with getting them engaged and focused on what is being taught. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Latasha, What are some ways sharing real life scenarios have helped your students in their learning process? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Bridget, These are fun instructors to listen to and learn from. I like to observe them as they help me with my own professional development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Bridget, One of the most powerful instructional tools that a teacher has is listening. Students really respond when they know their instructor is really listening to them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
