About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Gayle, Good caution that we all need to consider as we communicate with our students. We need to help them see how they can be successful and provide support when needed. This will result in engaged and successful students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Elizabeth, This is the human part of being an educator. You are showing them that you in fact do understand them because you were once where they are. This helps them to respect and relate to you and your course content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cheryl, Right you are about how students perceive and respond to instructors. We need to be models for our students in all that we do because they are always observing us. We set the tone so we need to bring our enthusiasm and passion for our field to class every time it meets. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Loretta, I agree. They often come to us without what we call "attach skills" meaning they are not sure how to analyze a situation, propose a solution and then implement the solution. They often lack the skills needed to acquire the information essential to the situation. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Loretta, These are mentally challenging as well as fun. They do help you to analyze and problem solve which can have real application to the chosen career area. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, Good way to share valuable information while keeping the attention of students. This is a major part of being an effective communicator. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brandon, Key point for all students to understand about you. You are there at the learning leader and you have the knowledge and experience to be such. Your age is not a consideration but your expertise is. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sara, I do to. These are the moments that keep me coming back to the classroom day after day. I like the way you relate your content to everyday items like car motors. Sounds like a fun and interesting approach. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brandon, I agree. The more relevancy and application you can introduce the more accurately the students will see the course content helping them to move toward their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Robin, Students really like hearing from graduates. They can see themselves through the graduates once they are out in the field. Also, the graduates by telling their stories reinforce the value of the content you are teaching. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
