About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Joe, Good point about how easy it is for us to get settled into our own routine and the excitement of teaching is lost. We need to reset our attitudes and bring our A game each time we step into a classroom or lab. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rebecca, Good point and one I appreciate you making so early in your teaching career. You have the career experience and now get to share that experience with students. By showing your human side and connecting that side with the content you are teaching you have set the stage for student success. I wish you much success as you share both your personality and professionalism with your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, Right you are about enthusiasm catching. It is fun to get a group of students excited about the subject being taught and helping them see how the content is moving them toward their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Margaret, Passion and enthusiasm are two ingredients for teaching success. If we are not excited about teaching our content it is for sure the students won't be either. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Elena, I use former students as guest speakers in my classes for the reasons you state. They really help the current students to see the value of the course content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joe, Good strategy to start the class. How do you do this with your students? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Elena, This is an important teaching strategy. If you don't engage the students during the PP presentations then they become passive learners and miss many of the important concepts being presented. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Albert, Your last sentence puts it all together so well. Learners like variety and change of pace no matter the content. You are doing that with a challenging subject like physics without a lab. Tough assignment but one that you are doing well. Keep up the good work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Pamela, Students no matter their ages seem to have a problem with listening. So repetition of due dates and project specifics is needed. They need to develop the ability to listen because once they are in the workplace they are going to have to listen and get it right the first time while meeting due dates or they aren't going to be working there for long. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rhonda, Great way to set the tone for the class. They are being given an overview of both the content of the course as well as the requirements. This is so important as you have experienced in getting the students settled into the course and feeling comfortable with how they are going to function in the class setting. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
