About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Edward, Yes, it is. These types of connections are important for students to see in relation to why they are enrolled in the course in the first place. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Andre, I think this is a great strategy. It gives the learner color, context and flow to integrate into their minds. This method greatly enhances the retention of the content while helping them to see how applications can be made. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Andre, Good way to continue the "reading" of the comprehension of your students and then acting accordingly. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Andre, I teach a similar mix of students and find that I have to work hard to bring in a variety of instructional deliveries that appeal to the different intelligences and learning preferences. The results are well worth it all the effort though due to the learning that the students experience. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Samirah, Good strategy to follow because if students don't have early success their confidence will not develop and they won't be as successful as they can be. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Katherine, Good way to offer variety and change of pace in your instructional delivery. You are keeping their minds engaged as you move the course forward in addition to being able to check for understanding as you go. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Darilyn , Good strategy because you are setting the stage for their success. If "future certified _______ technician" does not reach the end of the course successful it is on them since you have already given them the mental picture of how their title will read and the success that comes with that title. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Denise, Adults are just taller kids. Students like to receive rewards for effort and accomplishments. So candy treats and other such rewards have a role to play in the educational deliveries we employ, not to mention they are fun for everyone involved. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Mark, These letters are why we keep coming back to the classroom year after year. Knowing we have impacted lives and helped our students create a future for themselves is worth all of the challenges that come with our work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Jessica, This is a great way to engage students while getting valuable feedback. I am sure the students get a lot of valuable insight form writing in their journals and reflecting on how far they have come since the beginning of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
