About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

John, How do you do that for yourself? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, Very good point and listening as well as observing needs to be a part of what we do each and every time we work with students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gayle, It is for sure that if an instructor does not bring passion for the field nor enthusiasm about teaching it to the classroom or lab the students won't be engaged. We need to keep our energy up throughout all of our interactions with students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brandon, Good ideas for integrating action and movement into more theory based courses. Activities like small group, role playing and playing games all help to incorporate the tactile aspects of learning into the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tiana, This is a good way to approach the classroom. You are offering your students a variety of learning venues in which they can follow their learning preferences and this will increase their engagement. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tiana, By having the students sign that they have received and reviewed the syllabus they have made a commitment to follow the contents of the syllabus. This method reduces students say they didn't receive a copy of the syllabus or that they didn't understand what it said. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kathy, This is why I like student introductions as well. I can quickly get a feeling for the composition of my class once we have gone through the introductions. From there on it is a building process of respect and rapport. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kathy, So true and such an important point to understand. The syllabus is the communication of expectations document and all instructors need to remember that when they share it with students and refer to it when a question comes up. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, I wish you much teaching success. Keep up your professional development and you will enjoy a wonderful career as an educator. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tiana, A positive and supportive learning environment sets the tone for the learning that is going to occur. We need to remember this as we make preparations to start a new class and see our classrooms and labs through the eyes of our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
