About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Kirson, Well said. Instructors need to remember this as they plan the first day and how they are going to introduce themselves and the course. A positive first impression is the foundation to which the content and class activities are added. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Daniel, You ask a good question at the end of your comments. I have read a lot of different studies about research conducted on reflective thought and how it impacts our problem solving as well as critical thinking. As a long time researcher in cognitive processing I have learned that we know very little about how the brain functions. I am amazed at how a brain can be traumatically injured and then through healing, medical support, therapy and personal effort reform pathways that enable the person to function again. (I work with TBI patients in another part of my life.).… >>>

Daniel, I like the steps you have outlined for problem solving and critical thinking. If we can impart the understanding and value of these steps to our students we will have accomplished much in helping them move toward career success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Daniel, You make such a good point about how learners need to approach the informational and problem solving process. They do need to listen and learn from what is being said rather than just talking for the sake of talking. As the old saying goes "When you are listening you are learning.". Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Karen, Right you are. If a person can't really see how to approach the thinking needed to think about a situation then they often don't know where to start the problem solving process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brandon, Right you are. Students need help in seeing the parts and how they all work together to make up the big picture. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rebecca, Like your style. You have enthusiasm and passion which are two essential elements of teaching success. Keep up the good work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Norma, When you have a student that was on the bubble in terms of leaving school and decides to stay in school and then graduate you have to feel great. You have made a difference in the life of that student and this is one of the major rewards of being a teacher. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gayle, I'm sure they are because your weekend experiences are as current as they get for the field. You are bringing value and relevancy to what you are teaching through our work in the field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Discussion Comment
Rebecca, I think you are as well. I congratulate you in your effort to help them realize that if they love their field and are dedicated to preparing to enter it then they have made the right choice not matter the perceived status of that field by others. Keep up your work to encourage and support. You are making a difference in their lives. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
