About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Martin, So true. They need to have selected a career that appeals to them and their abilities. When that is don they are much more engaged in the learning process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rod, Both of your points are good ones. Yes, we need to keep them engaged through the introduction of activities. They let the students make application of the content that has just been covered. As for the adult learners I really like having them in class for the reason you state. They are such a valuable asset. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jeannette, Students really like hearing these stories as the help to make the content real for them. Keep sharing. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sharon, This helps to make the course come alive. Students need to be able to see applications of the content all around them and the use of current events help make that possible. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sharon, This is how all courses should be taught. Students need to see how the course content is integrated into their career training as well as every day lives. You are doing such with your accounting integration. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sharon, If possible I would suggest adding more illustrated examples of the concepts you are teaching. So after sharing content do role playing or case studies to help them integrate the content into their working memories even with their struggles with English as a learning language. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rod, A positive environment is the foundation of success for students. Your comments are right on in terms of how we need to approach the classroom and set the students up for success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rod, This is what career education should be about. Helping students to see their future through the current courses in which they are enrolled. If we can do that with our instruction and support then we will have achieved our goal which is consistent with the goals of our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Richele, The more we know about our students the more accurately we can target our instruction to meet the needs of our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Richele, This makes teaching fun when you get such feedback doesn't it? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
