About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Rhonda, The more you know about them the more you can customize your instructional approach as well provide needed support. In addition, knowing you are interested in learning more about them helps the students to become more engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rodriegus, Yes, it is because without a well prepared syllabus the students will not know the expectations, requirements or policies of the course. They need to know all these elements if they are to be successful in their learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Margaret, Right you are about the learning environment. A comfortable and supportive environment enables the students to focus on learning rather than the temp. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rhonda, Good strategy. As you say this way they will know when they have achieved the goals and objectives. In addition, by writing them down the students are being held accountable for their own learning since they have in their own writing what they said they were going to accomplish. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Toni, Without clear goals and objectives the class will be drifting and learning will be by chance. Also, at the end of the course no one will be sure what has occurred. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary, Thank you for the kind words about this professional development course. Hope you will take advantage of the other courses that are offered as you continue expanding your educational expertise. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Toni, You have a very well developed professional development plan put together for yourself. You are taking advantage of as many opportunities that come your way that you can. This is how growth happens and expertise is expanded. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rodriegus, These are good ideas for getting the students focused and ready to learn as a result of your instructional planning. This way you will be offering them content in their learning preference areas. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brent BK, This is an important part of learning. The more you can replicate the career field in which they will be entering while they are students the easier their transition will be to the actual setting. Having such experiences helps them to know they have made the right career choice. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Martin, I agree with you on this one. We don't bring enthusiasm for teaching nor passion for our field it is for sure the students won't be engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
