About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Darrell, So true and so important. The more they feel accepted and comfortable at the beginning of the class the more engaged they will be in the learning process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Darrell, It is essential that you do this because if you do not stay current you are doing a dis-service to your students and your profession. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Colette, I think this is a great way to learn more about your students. Through the pretest you can get a baseline on them and then the learning style assessment helps you to know how to plan your instructional delivery and activities. This sets the stage for a customized course each time you teach it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Israel, So true and so important to getting a course started off right. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Colette, It is the foundation upon which your relationship with your students is built. You are so right in terms of needing to be a positive one so you can start earning their respect from the beginning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Israel, It is sad that you had to experience such a poor teaching technique but the good news is that you realize it as being a poor technique and your students are going to benefit from your own educational experience. I wish you continued teaching success as you expand your own expertise and impact the lives of your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Colette, You are doing a good job of being flexible in your instructional approach and this is important because as you say each group of students is different. Keep focusing on the 3M's and you will do well. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kenisha, You are so right. If we do not bring passion for our content and enthusiasm for teaching it then it is for sure our students won't be excited either. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Erin, Small group activities are great for both the development of problem solving skills as well as helping students to learn how to work with different personalities. Both of these skills will be needed when they are out in the work world. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Zekrayat, The key is your comment about them needing to "step back" and think about the total situation before acting. This is what really helps students to develop their critical thinking skills. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
