About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Sharyl, You are a student centered instructor and you are to be commended for this. In addition, you are constantly looking for ways to improve your instructional delivery and style. This is the sign of a dedicated instructor which students value and follow. Keep up the good work! Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jodi, Good professional development plan you have developed for yourself. This is what will help you to continue to grow in your professional expertise as well as enjoyment as an educator. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rhoda, Thank you for sharing this experience with us. You are helping to impact the lives of the next generation of professionals entering your field. This is such a great feeling to have as an educator. An even greater feeling is knowing you are helping them to help others through their service learning projects. Keep up the good work! Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gwendolyn, All of these ideas are good methods to use. I really like the use of graduates as guest speakers. The students can see themselves in the graduates so they get excited about listening to them. In addition, they start to see the value of the content you are offering because the graduates talk about how they are using what they were taught to be successful. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Fidencio, Students need to learn how to express their ideas and thoughts in clear and concise ways. The more skill they develop in this area the better prepared they will be in the work place as much of their career success will be dependent on their communication skills. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Discussion Comment
Darrell, Questioning is a valuable teaching tool that instructors need to use to check for understanding and content acquisition. Your strategy helps to make this happen throughout the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gwendolyn, So true and an essential part of teaching success. A human connection sets the foundation for respect, rapport and trust. Once those three elements are in place then learning and student engagement will really take off. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Marcie, You teach a subject that is essential to their career success because communication is an integral part of every career. The more application you can make of the content and relevancy you can show them the greater the value will be associated with your course. You are doing this now and I know your students appreciate your efforts in this area. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Darrell, I agree because they need to see their future and how they are working on that future now. If they get too bogged down with life challenges they tend to forget why they enrolled in school in the first place so we need to remind them throughout the time we have them in class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gwendolyn, Great list of student supports that will increase their chances of staying in school and completing their program. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
