About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Robert, You will like the results you get with this approach. Learners like change of pace and variety in their learning and this method allows for both. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Patricia, This is the human side of instruction. We need to show our students that we will listen and support them if they will put forth the effort needed for success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Shalonda, Good point about application and relevancy. These are two essential elements of instructional success for students to have shared with them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, Repetition of due dates and project requirements is a must for instructors. Students seem to have selective hearing or maybe hearing loss when it comes to due dates and project requirements. We instructors need to post them, repeat them and then do all the steps over again and we will still have one or two students say they didn't know something was due. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Marilyn, Once the students know the policies, expectations and requirements then it is a building process from there on in the course. The quiz idea is a good one because it holds the students accountable for knowing what the syllabus says and they won't be able to say that they weren't informed about due dates or project specifics. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, It is fun to meet a new class knowing your are prepared and ready to teach. During the introduction and ice breaker time you get to know the students better and everyone is excited about the class to come. This sets the stage for successful learning and it is based upon that all important first impression. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, Having a standardized program enables you to stay consistent while stamping your course with your personality. Also, you can refine your instructional delivery since you already have the core content given to you. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tracy, Good analysis of how you can develop your instructional style in a way that is consistent with your personality and your currently enrolled students. Your instructional style will evolve over the years as you identify your most productive way of delivering content and impacting student lives. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, I have taught a long side some of these instructors. Their jobs are tough because the students don't respect them and they don't respect themselves or they would put more effort into their preparation and teaching. I enjoy teaching and have for many years. The joy I get from working with the next generation of professionals preparing to enter my field is worth all the effort I put into preparation and delivery. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Paul, Good explanation of how critical thinking works. This is why is we can give our students sufficient experiences they can internalize critical thinking processes and recall them as needed especially in times when time is short and the crisis is large. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
