About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Jeremy, This is so important in the educational and career development of students. These connections establish the fact that someone cares about them and their success. In addition, they know they have someone there to back them up and provide support should it be needed. This is a big confidence builder. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joseph, I call this "connecting the dots" for students. Once they see that what you are teaching them can be used outside of the classroom and in many different situations then they start to the value of being in school and why they are being taught the content they are. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tracy, Good observation. Yes, students become more engaged when they know you care about them and their success. They start to see you as a part of their success team because you listen to them, support them and give feedback to them. This shows them the value of having an instructor like you being their learning leader. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Aileen, You are making an impact and I commend you for that. Keep up the good work and I wish you continued teaching success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Shalonda, You make a good point about how students need to have the content reinforced to them and then refreshed for them through repeated examples and applications. This helps them to store the content in their working memories. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Thomas, Good ideas for instructors to remember and follow because excitement about the content and real life stories to support it help to keep the students focused on the content they are learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Thomas, This is a good way to keep everyone fresh and excited about the current course they are teaching. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Shalonda, Good strategies for engaging the students in the learning process. Case studies enable students to see relevancy to and application of the content that has been shared with the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Thomas, This is a great resource for both the students and yourself because they outline the issue and then propose ways of resolving the issue. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dyana, This is what makes the syllabus of value to the students and you. The syllabus outlines the course requirements, policies and expectations. Once the students know all of these then they can work toward completing them while using the syllabus as a guide. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
