About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Micki, You have had a range of educators from which you can learn and grow. You know which ones you want to model after and which ones you want to avoid being like. Set the standards high for yourself and work to constantly expand your expertise as an educator and you are going to continue enjoying teaching success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Micki, Glad you can see the value of the content that is being shared. To bad you are not just getting access to it and after acquiring your expertise through you on the job teaching efforts. I wish you continue teaching success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cody, I am a big user of student learning groups for projects and panels in my classes. I think they really help students to grow and develop in their communication and leadership abilities. Your caution is a good one because it is easy for one student to take a group over or do the work and the other coast along. I have my group expectations set out where each contributes and shares so that when they task is completed they can be equally evaluated. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Chris, Thank you so much for these comments. I think many students become so bogged down in life they forget to have a life. There has to be balance in their lives just as you mention if they are going to enjoy their college experiences and grow in their knowledge and maturity. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Linda, So true. Without expectations there are not standards for the students to work toward. We need to share with them clear goals and objectives and how they can achieve those goals and objectives. This is how you can get the class off to a good start. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sarah, You are doing a service to your students with this approach because you are helping them to expand their abilities to take in content beyond just their preferred way. The reality of the workplace is going to require this so you are helping them to develop this needed skill. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Linda, Good strategy. It will keep your students engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Martin, I do to. You are coming from the field and helping your students to prepare to enter the field. The more you can connect their thinking to expectations of that field the easier their transition will be full time employment. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Larry, Good advice for beginning instructors to follow as they begin new courses. Set the stage in a positive way and then build on that image for the duration of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Breanna, Well said in terms of what happens when we meet someone for the first time. When we instructors walk into our class for the first meeting we have every eye on us wondering just what we are like. We need to make a positive first impression so we can build on it to enhance the learning of our students in the coming sessions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
