About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Holly, Sounds like you have had some wonderful instructors in your past that have influenced how you want to educate your students. By building on these models I know you are going to continue to have success with your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carol, Tactile learners constitute a large majority of learners so we need to make sure we incorporate opportunities for such learning to occur. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Micki, This is a great ice breaker for starting off a new course. I know your students appreciate your collection of this information and then highlighting it during the introduction session. This way everyone gets a better understanding of who is in the class and why they are there. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sheila, Good strategy for your faculty to follow. The more we can use their life experiences to reinforce our content the greater their connection is going to be to their courses and the college. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Micki, So true. Most of us teach the same set of courses over and over and we need to strive to introduce new content and/or activities so we don't become buried in our routine just as you say. We need to keep our passion for our field and our enthusiasm for teaching at the front of efforts. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lawrence, This is the role of a learning leader and your method helps your students to get settled into the course and comfortable with their success in the class. I am sure your students appreciate your investment in their future. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cody, This is a method that shows both application and relevancy. This increases the engagement of students and helps them to focus on the outcomes they are going to achieve. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cody, You are a role model for your students. I love hearing stories like this because they illustrate that everyone can be successful if they will work at it. You never lost sight of your goal and you achieved it. You are teaching the students that they can be successful if the don't let life overwhelm them. Keep up your efforts and I wish you continued teaching success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sheila, Right you are about how instructor roles have changed. We need to strive to show our students that we respect and value them. We want them to see that we are going to provide support to them if the are willing to put forth the effort and invest the time to learn. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Micki, You are showing your human side as an educator and this is so important when dealing with students of all ages but especially adults. They need to see they are valued and respected for what they are bringing and contributing to the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
