About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

James, I like your formula because my own experience in teaching technical content has been this blend and it has been successful. The more students have different ways of approaching their learning of content and making applications the greater their competence is going to be at the end of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dr. Faulk, Well said because each of us happens to be unique and as a result we process information differently. The more understanding we instructors have about the different intelligences the more accurately we are going to be able to target our instructional delivery. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, The examples you share with your students are valuable because many of the students have never thought about brain functions and why certain topics are easier for them while others are harder. By having this information they can see where they can concentrate their learning efforts. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Amie, This is what student centered learning is about. The students need to see the ROI from what is being taught in the course and how it applies to their career goals. The more they see this the more value they attach to the content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dr. Faulk, As you know from your educational experiences learners like variety and change of pace in learning. You are doing such with your efforts as well as appealing to the different learning preferences represented in your class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, Good strategy because the more they can connect their lives experiences with the content the greater the retention of content is going to be. In addition they start to see applications of the content through these life connections. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gladys, I think these one on ones are so important for the reasons you state. You are encouraging the students as you talk with and review their progress thus far. This helps them to see the value of why they enrolled in the course in the first place. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gladys, Great advice for veteran instructors to consider. When we do such a re-boot it is like getting to teach a new course because of the new content and strategies you are introducing. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nicole, This is such an important part of instructional planning. By knowing about our students we can customize our instruction for them at they point they are within the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jason, Right you are because it is our obligation as learning leaders to provide the latest content to our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
