I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Julie, What a great compliment you received. When you are too energetic for a Monday you are really bringing some excitement and enthusiasm to your class. Keep it up and enjoy your opportunity to impact the lives of your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Robin, Students love hearing application and real life stories from their instructors. These stories help the content to come alive and shows them application of the information. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Vanessa, I teach three and six hour long courses so I can really appreciate your approach to longer classes. Students need as you are providing variety and change of pace in their learning opportunities. The more you provide the more engaged they are going to be. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ariana, You hit upon something that many students overlook in developing their knowledge and skills. Self-discipline. It is essential and history bears out that successful critical thinkers have all had self-discipline as they refined their abilities as problem solvers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ariana, Good definition of a critical thinker. The more we can develop their knowledge of and expertise in critical thinking the better students are going to be able to be problem solvers. Keep up your great efforts in helping them to be thinkers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Amie, Thank you for sharing with us examples of how you have used graphic organizers. I know these ideas will be valuable to other instructors that are considering using them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dr. Faulk, Thank you for this excellent example of how to engage and challenge students. You set such a great case study up for your students so they could see themselves developing such a campaign. This is what application learning should be about. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mabelle Joy, This is such a good strategy to follow. This inspires and encourages your students on a regular basis which is needed because they wear down as they move through the course. They need "perking" up now and then to help them keep their eyes on the end goal of being successful in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mabelle Joy, I like this quote a lot. I think reflects how we are to approach the classroom and center our attention on students. The results are engaged students and effective instruction. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Amie, You hit upon the key word and that is relevance. No relevance no engagement. So the more relevance we can demonstrate in relation to the content being sharing the greater their abilities are going to be to apply what they are learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
