About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

MICHELE, You have covered the value of a positive and supportive learning environment very well. This should be our first effort as educators. Once we have the environment set up we are then ready to receive and teach students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Adam, You are fortunate to have such a great setting for your students. The more we can simulate the work place the easier the transition will be for our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jessica, This is how I want my lab as well because I want my students to know I have gone to the effort to prepare for their coming. As a result I want them to become engaged and focused on the learning objectives for that day. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gordon, Good point about the learning environment. We need to look through the eyes of students at the classroom and/or lab to be sure they see a place that they want to be and where they believe learning can take place. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lori, No idea about destination is an indicator that no plans have been made nor strategies developed. This is true for teaching as well. Good point, thanks for making it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jonathan, Great to hear that this information and the videos are helpful in your professional development. Keep up the good work of gaining additional information about effective instructional delivery. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Morgan, Good point and one we need to remember as we plan our instructional delivery. The more variety we can offer our students the more opportunities there will be to offer content in their learning preference area. You idea of using student surveys to gain additional information about student preferences is a good one because not only do you gain the information but your students will appreciate that you are trying to get to know about them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, Good plan and I know you and your students are going to like the results that are achieved. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lori, I think this form of modeling is critical. Once the students start to see their instructor in such a role they make a connection to the field they are preparing to enter. Seeing such a role model facilitates their transition into the field and as you say helps them to offer good care to their patients. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, The more you can engage students in activities that assist them in making application of content the more relevancy they will see in what they are being taught. You are doing such with your method of having them share and explain what they have just learned. Good teaching strategy to follow. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
