About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Joyce, It is the road map (today the GPS) for the course. It is informs and gives direction thus we need to make sure it is well prepared and easy to follow. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Daniel, Good point and one we instructors need to remember. We need to see our classrooms and labs through the eyes of our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Yesenia, Clear goals and objectives are essential if students are going to become engaged in the course and focused on their future. They need to see what the ROI is going to be for them at the end of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Debbie, I like your list of questions that you ask yourself about your presentation style. Video taping can be a great way to gain insight to how you come off to your students. It can also make you want to run and hide when you see some of the mannerisms that you have and didn't realize you were doing. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Manuel, I like your teaching style. You are making it fun to learn for your students. Keep up the good work. Glad you like the material and I trust that it will be of help to you as you expand your instructional expertise. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joyce, So true and so important. We need to bring both the classroom each time we teach. To do less is to short change our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Yesenia, This is such an important part of the total educational process. We need to model the behavior, dress and language of our field. You are right about we often being the only professional in the field that they have spent any time with and had an opportunity to observe. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jane, Examples are great motivators as well as illustrations of how application can be made of the content that is being studied. I really enjoy the discussions that come out of sharing examples with my students. Based upon your comments it sounds like you have great discussions after sharing examples with your students as well. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kelly, You make a very good point about relevance. It is critical that students understand the relevancy of what they are studying. The more application that can be made the more relevancy is understood. Keep up the effort as you "connect the dots" between content and application for your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jane, Learners like change of pace and variety. By offering both you will be able to keep students engaged for longer periods of time and the result will be enhanced learning opportunities. A win win for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
