About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Frank, I agree with you. I think instructors need to show up everyday passionate about their content/field and enthusiastic about teaching it. That sets the tone for the students and enthusiasm is catching. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sonya, You last sentence reminds me of a plaque I recall seeing in a school office. It said "To Teach is to Learn Twice, Once as a student and once as a teacher." This is what you are doing for your students as they learn the content as students and then go back and learn it again as they present it to their peers. The result is greatly enhanced retention of the content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Stephanie, This is so important for instructors understand as they bring their passion and enthusiasm to the class sessions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Christina, I think this is a great way to introduce the students to what to expect when the class meets. They can get a feeling for how the course is going to operate this way. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jason, Yes, it does. From then on it is the process of giving and earning the respect of students while helping them to move toward their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sonya, It is critical for setting the tone for the upcoming class sessions. The first impression is the foundation for the rest of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Stephanie, My response to these comments is based upon my earlier post. I think if I were you I would explore other instructional options where you can find a better match for your instructional sharing. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jason, Good plan. It should help you to continually expand your instructional expertise. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Christina, This sharing of ideas, opinions are great ways for students to develop their confidence in their newly acquired knowledge by discussing what they have learned and why they see value in what they are learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Katherine, You have a great professional development plan laid out for yourself as well as a great attitude about expanding your knowledge and expertise as an educator. The results of all your efforts I know will be increased learning on the part of your students. You are have and will continue to impact the lives of the next generation of students entering your field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
