About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Cheryl, It is so value for course improvement. I get student feedback throughout my courses so I can make any adjustments needed to keep the students engaged and the course moving forward. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cheryl, This is so important for student retention. Knowing they are valued and cared about by an authority figure is important for students. You are doing both with your approach. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Leslie, These are great ways to share with each other as well as learn more about how others are receiving the content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cheryl, I use learning group assignments a lot in my classes for the reasons you list. They are a great way to get students to interact with each other. They are going to have to work with others when they are out in their careers so they need to learn how to do it while in school. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Yolanda, This is such a good point to remember as we plan our lessons. We are trying to individualize instructor on a mass basis. This is a challenge but can be done through planning and effort. The result will be students that value the information that they are receiving and the direction you are taking them as an instructor. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Margaret, The more examples you can use in your teaching the more value the students associate with the content that is being shared. So your instructional plan is right on. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Leslie, Good plan. The more variety you can introduce into your instructional delivery the more engagement you are going to have. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Leslie, External influences and pressures can really shape how students prepare and proceed in a course. The more we can understand and support them the more we are able to retain them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Yolanda, I like this idea. It sounds fun for the students yet it gets them involved in the review and then sharing of what they have read and understand. Thanks for sharing this idea with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Margaret, Good points about the all important first class meeting. It does set the tone for the upcoming class sessions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
