About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Barbara, What do you see the greatest benefits for students from these field trips? Thanks for you input on this. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sharon, Good points about the value of a well prepared syllabus. Yes, it is a contract between the students and the instructor so it needs to have the essential elements of the policies, requirements and expectations clearly laid out. Also, a well prepared syllabus reduces a lot of the logistical questions that students ask. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brandon, Good point about how to "read" the preparation level of your students. This way you know how to approach your instruction and to what level certain students will be ready to respond. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Barbara, How do you set up such environments in your classes? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brandon, All of these instructional activities are a great way to help students to transition their thinking from being students to being professionals in the field. A lot of their professional lives will be spent doing critical thinking and problem solving. The more experience they can get in these areas the better prepared they will be when they enter the field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Irina, They are a good study aid as you mention. They help the students to see the way the parts come together and how the total is developed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Linda, You have outlined the learning process so well. The more opportunities they have to make connections between content and their life experiences the higher the level of content retention. This is a win win situation for them and their future success nursing. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Linda, Good way to wrap up a course and check for learning. Their sharing of what they have learned with the groups reinforces the content one more time for them as they get ready to exit. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Linda, I have used these as well and they are great not to mention a lot of fun to use because of the instant feedback that is given. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cheryl, Good for you. Checking for understanding is an important part of the instructional process. This way you know if your students are getting it and are able to use it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
