About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Raghda, Thank you for the good points you make about how to make instruction relevant. The students need to see relevancy and application to what they are being asked to learn. When they see the value their motivation level increases and they start to see their future opportunities. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, Well said in relation to how an instructor's passion for his or her field and enthusiasm for teaching the content impacts the learning of students. Both of these elements are critical in the teaching process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Katherine, Belief in a person is very powerful. Knowing a person in authority (instructor) cares about them personally and is ready to provide support if needed if they will put forth the effort increases their motivation and dedication to success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Donna, The more you treat your students as professionals and demand of them the same standards as those used in the field the easier their transition will be into their career area. They are preparing to enter a field that requires not only technical skill and knowledge but a human factor as well. They need to learn how to be comfortable in all of these areas if they are going to be successful. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Leigh, Sounds like a very well coordinated approach to moving your students through the learning process. You are using a number of different educational approaches that enable your students to use their learning preferences to acquire the key concepts. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mau, Yes, it does make a lot of sense to use as many different instructional deliveries as is possible. This will keep the students engaged and the interest level high. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mau, So important because if they don't know what is required they won't know what is expected of them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mau, Yes, it will. This sets the students up for success because they are not impacted by a setting that distracts them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Raghda, Good point because you can target your instruction to meet the needs of your students and keep them engaged at a higher level. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Leslie, They sometimes tend to be shortsighted and wear down. So by keeping their end goals in front of them they will continue to focus on their future. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
