About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Michael, Simple concise message that they need to understand if they are going to have success in your class. This should reduce confusion and frustration. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Daniel, Well put. The more integration of senses that instructors can provide students the more relevancy and application of the content they are going to have. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Wendy, Thanks for sharing your graphic organizer strategy with us. The more ways we can effectively communicate the course content the more venues the students have to take it in. This creates more connecting points for them in their working and long term memory bank and that sets them up for success as they enter the work place. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dale, Good way to get your students engaged in learning the parts of a transmission in a graphic way. By having them label the picture themselves you are helping them to personalize the information and this will result in a higher content retention rate. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, The more connections you can make like this the better. This greatly increases the value of the course to the students because they begin to see the relevancy of the current information and how it impacts their career development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Janice, I agree about rapport. By earning the respect of students you set the stage for rapport to develop. When you have rapport with students you are able to connect with them about the course content and their success in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, Good way to open start a new class. This gets everyone settled in and knowing a bit more about each other. Then you can start the building process for the rest of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Janice, Great to hear about your passion for both your field and teaching. This is what helps to create a connection between the course content and students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, We must bring the human factor into our teaching. You are right about the effect an unapproachable instructor can have on the attitude of students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, This is an important point for instructors to know because it can help them as they plan how they will deliver the content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
