About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Terizian, Good point and one we need to remember as we do our instructional planning. This is one of the challenges we face since most of us have such a wide age and experience range among our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Katherine, These are all components of the class room structure process and the instructor as the learning leader needs to factor them in as he or she does their instructional planning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kent, Your experiences from the field help to increase the value of the course content being presented. So by blending them you are helping students to see the application portion of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kent, So true. A poor first impression will have you digging out of a negative hole for the majority of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rich, Good way to get a graphic picture of the different learning styles that are represented in your course. This strategy helps the students to have more understanding of themselves as well. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Richard, Good for you. Older students have so much to offer but they frequently don't know if they can be successful in the course. So the quicker we can get them to see that they in fact can be successful the quicker they will start to contribute to the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Glenn, Do your students do any personal projects for the course that they can share with the other students? With so few students I would think that personal projects and then reporting on them would help to keep the students focused. Just an idea. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
MALCOLM, You are providing your students with some great support materials as well as making the content applicable to them and their lives. The more you can create such connections the greater their value of the course content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lori, Small class can be tough due to peer pressure and the BFF influence. By breaking them up into learning groups you are helping them to see that they are going to have to work with everyone once they are out in the field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lynne, Yes, it does. Each student needs to see and understand how he or she fits into the course. You are helping them to be able to do this with your clear and concise course requirements. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
