About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Karen, I am always amazed at what students pick up on. In your case something a minor as three keys jingling together while you were writing on the board became a big think with this student. Knowing things like this helps us all to get better at our craft. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Lynne, I use feedback a lot in my courses so I can make adjustments as needed while the course is in session. I have found that the end of the course evaluations have little value because the students that wrote the comments are gone. I like to hear from them while the course is going on so I can make changes if needed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Richard, Good way to use the midterm grades to the benefit of both you and your students. This increases the value of having the grades and the results that can come out of them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Terizian, With changes in your field coming this frequently you really have to work hard to remain current. This requires a lot of effort but at least you know you are giving your students the most current information. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Thomas, Good point and this is the reason that you need to mix things up, try new things and be creative in your delivery so that the course remains fresh to and for you as well. This will help you to stay excited about teaching the course another time. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Patricia, Like your last sentence because it sums up your comments nicely. This is what teaching should be about. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, I think you are going to like the results that you and your instructional staff get from using different activities to mix up the delivery of content. The more variety the more engaged students will be. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, This is a good way to gain information and about students and gives you insight into the reasons they are enrolled in the course. The more you know about your students the more accurately you can provide the support as needed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Adam, Right you are about rapport. Rapport also establishes respect for the instructor and the students and gives a foundation upon which to operate throughout the course session. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Adam, This is a major part of student and teacher success. Having a connection with the instructor and knowing that he or she cares about each student in the class is so important. It increases engagement. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
