About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Joseph, I think this is a very wise thing to do because you are letting the students know exactly what is going to be expected of them so they can plan their schedules accordingly. Often students don't realize or don't process the fact that they are going to have to work and work hard to be successful in their college career efforts. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kristina, I know you will like the results you get when your students develop their own graphic organizers because by doing so they become invested in how they are constructed as well as they increase the value of the results since they had to work to put them together. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Erin, You are right on with your perception of how you can increase the value of the course to your students. Showing relevancy and illustrating application will increase the ROI for the students dramatically. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Susan, Good strategy to follow. The more you know about your students to more accurately you can plan your instructional delivery to meet their needs. I like to come to class early and chat with the students and have them share a bit about their lives with me because I can get a feel for the mood of the class during this time. Having a feel for the class is important on how I will start the class and which direction I am going to take the discussion. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Angela, Starting with earning the respect of students and then giving them respect in return you have formed the foundation for the development of rapport. Rapport is how you get students engaged and focused on their success in the course. Good strategy to follow. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Angela, The human factor is important in everything we do so we need to display it with our students while helping them to see how it fits into their career preparation. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Norma, Student love this. Closing out the class this way sets up the next class for the students. You are getting them excited about what is to come and that is a strong reason for their being in attendance at the next class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lewis, Good way to show the human side of your professional style while getting them engaged in the course right from the beginning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lewis, Students need to learn how to interact and discuss with others topics that are relevant to their program. With the structure you have in your school you are doing this as well as keeping them focused on the progress they are making in their career development. Good preparation for their growth in the work world. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lewis, As an instructor that cares about student engagement you are reaching out to your students to let them know if they will put forth the effort you will be there to assist them with their work. Good way to start a course off. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
