About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Billie, Good for you. This makes learning more enjoyable as well as engaging for your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, The personal attention and focus you put on your students is so important. This gets everyone in the class into the learning environment, meaning even the quiet students know they are accepted and their opinions valued. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Autumn, You got that right. We are the learning leaders for our classes so it is up to us to set the stage for how the course will be conducted right from the start. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Janis, Congratulations on your program leading to your Doctorate. You are fortunate to be in the mix of cutting edge instructional development and delivery as a result of your studies. The idea of talking with colleagues and gaining insight from them is a good way to enhance professional growth. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mariann, All of these instructional strategies contribute to the forward progress in the learning by students. My students love to play the games, like Family Feud and Jeopardy when we review for quizzes. They get competitive and excited about helping their team win the game. Fun time and a lot of learning opportunities. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mariann, We need to bring our A game to the classroom or lab every time we teach a class. We are the learning leaders of our students so we set the example and are models of what we expect of our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mariann, Knowing their instructor cares about their success is a powerful motivator for students. By listening to them and providing support a message is being sent that helps the students to see they are not the only ones that want success to come to them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Larry, Passion for one's field and enthusiasm about teaching are two essential elements of the instructional process. You are right if the instructor is not excited about being in the classroom it is for sure the students won't be. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mariann, Good way to mix the groups. The more the students have in working with others the more successful they will be in their careers. Learning groups help them to gain such experience while developing their problem solving skills. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joseph, This is a good strategy because it gives input to the students from another perspective, that being a professional in their field. In the work world their efforts are going to be evaluated so the sooner they can get input from someone from the field the sooner they start to see how much effort they are going to need to put into their projects and what the evaluation criteria is. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
