About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Arlene, Good way to inform the students and raise their level of accountability because they sign the form that says they have been given the expectations for the course. Everyone is starting with the same information this way. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anne, This is how you set the tone for the classes to come. You are the learning leader so you must bring passion for your field and enthusiasm for teaching from the first class on. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anne, The importance of this cannot be over stated. A well prepared syllabus helps everyone involved to be on the same page and have the same understanding. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Arlene, This is a must for instructors. They need to remember they are always on stage and their students are going to model after their dress, behavior and conduct. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Stephen, You are right on with this statement. We all have been in situations where something was missing or did not work but by early and careful planning we were able to keep the class moving forward. Early planning reduces a lot of panic and anxiety for instructors. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anne, These are all good ways to get students participating in the class at different points throughout each session. The more variety the more opportunities there are for students to contribute via their learning preferences. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kara, The environment has a lot to do with the mind set of students and how their perceive their instructional program. This is why we need to have a supportive and engaging environment in which to teach. The latest equipment and practices should be shared so the students see that they are getting the most current content in the field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Stacy, These experiences from the field as told by their instructors help to show the value of the course to the students. They make the content to come alive and have relevance for the students and their future careers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Discussion Comment
Stacy, I collect student feedback throughout the course so that I have a "read" of how the course is going. Then I can make any adaptations I need to in order to keep the course on target. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kara, This is so important in relation to class management. Through rapport and respect you have a relationship that demonstrates the professional standards of the field and how to interact with others. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
