About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Mary, I use this format as well and have great results with it. The groups work just as you have described them. Each person learns from the other and collectively they all group in their knowledge and problem solving skills. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jacqueline, This is a blend of skill sets that need to be developed while the students are in school. I agree with your analysis of how intelligence operates in this type of work setting. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sophia, Right you are about needing to understand the workplace and how to be successful in it. Many of my students today have an entitlement mentality and as a result think they are owed a grade. I have to convince them that they have to earn their grade through hard work and effort. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jacqueline, Reasoning is the foundation of common sense. Common sense is lacking in the lives of many people. The more reasoning experiences we can offer our students the better prepared they will be when they are out in the field and making decisions that have financial, business or patient impacts. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary, This is a great way to get students familiar how research is done and how to review research in a way that lets them come to conclusions with a much higher degree of accuracy. Otherwise they will just depend on what is written whether it is accurate or not. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jacqueline, Good analysis of how graphic organizers can help students with their knowledge acquisition. They are valuable for students that may be a little weak on their note taking skills since they let them see the content in sections. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Juanita, Thank you for sharing the enthusiasm your students had for chart review. They realized the value that was going to come from them reviewing the charts and then discussing what was going on with the patient. This is a great application strategy for students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Madelaine, This is something that many students miss. It is their future they are preparing for so they need to have the self discipline to be in class and doing the required work. When they do that they will be successful in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, This way you can find your balance again and you have kept the class from derailing. Thank you for bringing up this challenge because each of us needs to have such a plan in place. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Madelaine, Early success really helps with building student confidence. This is especially true for older students that are returning to school. Once they see they can be successful their motivation levels increases greatly and they start to really enjoy being students again. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
