About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Daisy, This is a good way to get everyone settled into the course. They know you are there for them and care about their success with this approach. This forms a great foundation for enhanced learning to occur. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nicole, Listening is a valuable teaching tool. Knowing you are listening to them is important to students. By them knowing you are listening they will open up and contribute more to the course as well as listen themselves when others share. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Pam, Good way to check for understanding. This way you know what you need to review at the next session if the students don't have a complete understanding. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Daisy, Feedback is valuable in many ways. This information helps us to make changes and improve our courses while becoming even more effective instructors. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Daryl, I agree. One of the things I like to do is to go "job shadow" individuals in my field for a few hours or day. This way I get to see what is the most current applications and techniques being used plus I get input from the person on additional things my students need to know. I find this time a lot of fun and I always learn a lot from this small investment of time. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tammie, This is a comfortable way to start off a new class. By easing the students into the course via introductions and ice breakers you give them the opportunity to get to know each other and see how the course is going to operate. By the time you are ready to cover course requirements they settled in and ready to go. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dennis, Thank you for sharing this strategy for getting each class member involved in the learning process. I know this will be of value to other instructors. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Daryl, I use this form of learning a lot. I have case studies that I assign to small learning groups. This gets everyone involved and contributing which increases each student's ability to make application of the content being shared. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jorge, I agree. It is for sure that if the instructor is not excited about being in the class the students won't be either. We instructors need to bring our enthusiasm with us each time we meet the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Daisy, This is so important. I think instructors need to bring passion for their field and enthusiasm for teaching to class each time it meets. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
