About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Connie, Like the comparison because it is very accurate. Having played bridge for many years it requires thinking of numerous possibilities, selecting options and then problem solving as the cards are played. This is what reflective thinking is about. Thank you for this good point. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brant, You make a good point and one that we need to impress on our students as we help them develop their problem solving skills. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Juliet, So true. The time spent in reflective thinking will yield valuable results when it comes to coming up with a solution. Reflective thinking reduces the error factor as well. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Juliet, This is an often forgotten part of problem solving. Self discipline takes time and effort but the results pay off big time. By stopping and thinking through situations solutions can be selected and the problem solved. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brant, What are some of the publications that you find helpful? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Juliet, You have developed a very well constructed definition of what a critical thinker should be about. This definition gives you an operational base from which you can plan instructional activities that will help your students to become critical thinkers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sherry, Good way to bridge from one day to the next. It is easy for students to drift away in longer class sessions. The more variety you can introduce as you deliver the content the better. This will help them to see the value of the content as well as make application of it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Maria, Respect is the foundation for the development of rapport. I strive to earn the respect of my students and in return I will respect my students if they conduct themselves in a professional manner. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Daryl, Students like hearing stories from the field. Not only are the stories interesting they also help students to see the value of what is being taught. You are increasing their ROI in the course by sharing these stories and examples. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dennis, Good plan on your part. You get two very valuable forms of information that you can use in your instructional planning. Then you can build from there in terms of how you are going to approach the delivery of instruction for your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
